Human Menopausal Gonadotropin (HMG), also known as menotropins, is a purified gonadotropin extract that contains both follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity. In males, HMG is primarily used to directly stimulate spermatogenesis through FSH receptor activation in the Sertoli cells of the testes, while its LH activity supports testosterone production.
Direct FSH Stimulation: Activates Sertoli cells to promote sperm production and maturation.
LH Activity Support: Stimulates Leydig cells to produce testosterone, complementing endogenous or HCG-stimulated activity.
